CRIMINAL LAW MATTERS
As a barrister, Martin was involved
in the following criminal law matters:
Martin has appeared in almost every kind of criminal matter:
• in the State courts of Queensland (that is, the Magistrates Court, the District Court, the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal);
• in respect of State and Commonwealth offences;
• on committals, pre-trial applications, trials, sentences and inquests;
• for the defence and for the prosecution (over 30 jury trials);
• environmental offences, traffic offences, property offences, offences of violence, offences of dishonesty, sexual offences and drug offences;
• peace and good behaviour matters and domestic violence matters.
Criminal jury trials are never recorded in the law books because the jury is the "finder of fact" and does not have to provide reasons. However, when there are appeals or pre-trial applications, the court will provide written reasons. Here are some the available court decisions in which Martin appeared:
Goli (Commissioner of State Revenue) v Thompson & Anor [2017] QDC 4-District Court-s 222 appeal to District Court
R v Bobart [2012] QCA 33-Court of Appeal-appeal against conviction-dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death
